The Resident Scholarship Program

The scholarship was established to help recognize and develop future leaders for osteopathic family medicine in Missouri. Each year, the Foundation awards $1,000 scholarships to osteopathic family physicians in a Missouri family medicine residency program, and who plan to stay and practice in Missouri. The Foundation works in conjunction with the Missouri Society of the ACOFP (MSACOFP) to present these scholarships.

Applicants must:

  1. Be a graduate of an osteopathic medical college or university;

  2. Be a second or third year resident in a Missouri family medicine residency program;

  3. Be a Missouri resident and intend to practice in Missouri following your residency;

  4. Be a member in good standing in the ACOFP and the MO Society of the ACOFP. Be sure to check membership prior to submitting application;

  5. Have demonstrated leadership skills in osteopathic medical school and/or in the residency program;

  6. Have a letter of reference from your residency director and a D.O. family physician who is a member of the MSACOFP;

  7. Submit a letter outlining your commitment to family medicine in the state of Missouri;

  8. Ability to attend the MSACOFP Winter Family Medicine Update January 18-21, 2024 in Columbia, Missouri. This includes the award presentation, the Membership Meeting and Luncheon, and other activities that may be added.

  9. Serve and participate on the MSACOFP Board of Governors, Convention and Education Committee, Membership Committee or Women in Medicine Committee for at least one year following receipt of this scholarship.  

  10. Assist with the student & resident leadership program (normally held during the Winter Family Medicine Update).

Application and Selection Process

  1. Complete the application in full.

  2. Include a Letter of Reference from your Residency Program Director and a D.O. family physician who is a member of the MSACOFP.

  3. Include a personal letter outlining your commitment to family medicine in the State of Missouri. In your letter, be sure to also address what leadership qualities you have demonstrated during your training program and why you believe you are a good scholarship candidate.

  4. The Board of Directors will review the applications and determine finalists. All finalists will participate in an on-line video interview.

The Award

  1. The scholarship is a cash award of $1,000. You will be recognized in front of fellow physicians and the award will be presented during a General Session at the Winter Family Medicine Update. 

  2. The organization will pay for mileage, lodging and registration to the Winter Family Medicine Update. Attendance is required on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You are welcome to bring a guest at no charge.
