Speaker bio: 

David Mehr, MD, MS is professor emeritus at the department of family and community medicine at the University of Missouri Columbia. He is a family physician who is also board certified in geriatric medicine. Dr. Mehr is an expert in Alzheimer’s and also holds a post-graduate degree in clinical research design and statistics.

 Learning Objectives: 

  1. Understand the distinction between clinical dementia and Alzheimer’s diagnosis according to a new guideline.
  2. Be aware of the literature on screening benefits and how new treatments might change benefits or not.
  3. Understand strengths and limitations of screening tests for dementia.
  4. Be aware of the diagnostic evaluation and its relevance to different types of dementia.

Grievance Policy

All grievances should be in writing and specify the nature of the grievance. Initially, all grievances should be directed to the MSACOFP and the Executive Director. All grievances will receive an initial response in writing within 30 days of receipt. The MSACOFP will resolve the grievance, if possible. If the participant does not receive a satisfactory response, they must then submit a complaint in writing to the Council on Continuing Medical Education, American Osteopathic Association, 142 East Ontario Street, Chicago, IL 60611.

Accreditation Statement and Hours

The MSACOFP is an accredited sponsor by the American Osteopathic Association to provide osteopathic continuing medical education for physicians. The MSACOFP designates the 2025 Summer Virtual CME Series for a maximum of 5 AOA Category 1-A credits and will report CME and specialty credits commensurate with the extent of the physician’s participation in this activity.

The AAFP has reviewed 2025 Summer Virtual CME Series, and deemed it acceptable for AAFP credit. Term of approval is from 05/20/2025 to 09/23/2025. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

This session Early Dementia Screening and Evaluation is approved for 1 live virtual AAFP Prescribed credit. AAFP Prescribed credit is accepted by the American Medical Association as equivalent to AMA PRA Category 1 credit(s)™ toward the AMA Physician's Recognition Award. When applying for the AMA PRA, Prescribed credit earned must be reported as Prescribed, not as Category 1.
